Hypnotherapy in Exeter. What to Look for When Choosing a Therapist

3 min read

If you are looking for a hypnotherapist in Exeter, you will find a number of options. And choosing between them is not always straightforward.

Hypnotherapy as a profession covers a wide range of approaches and specialisms. Some hypnotherapists work primarily with smoking cessation or weight management. Others focus on confidence, performance, or general anxiety. Some work with everything. The training, experience, and approach can vary considerably from one practitioner to the next.

If you are looking for help with a specific phobia, this matters. Because phobia work is not the same as general hypnotherapy. It requires a specific understanding of how phobias work and a refined approach to shifting them. And not all hypnotherapists have that.

What to Look for in a Hypnotherapist

When choosing any therapist, there are a few things worth paying attention to.

Specialist. A hypnotherapist who works specifically in the area you need help with will almost always produce better results than one who treats a broad range of issues. Ask them what they specialise in and what percentage of their client work involves your specific concern.

Experience. How long have they been working? How many clients have they helped with your specific issue? Experience matters in any field, and hypnotherapy is no different.

Evidence of results. Look for real testimonials from real clients. Not just general five star reviews, but specific accounts from people who had your type of problem and experienced a genuine change.

Approach. Ask how they work. Do they offer a chance to talk before you commit? Do they explain their approach clearly? Do they make you feel comfortable and confident rather than pressured?

About My Practice in Exeter

I am Stuart Heale, a specialist phobia hypnotherapist based in Exeter. My practice is built entirely around phobias. It is not one of several things I do. It is the only thing I do.

I work with adults across Devon and the wider UK who are dealing with specific fears. Spider phobia, fear of flying, emetophobia, fear of dogs and cats, claustrophobia, fear of heights, snake phobia, fear of water, public speaking anxiety, and more.

All sessions take place online via Zoom, which means I can work with clients across Exeter, Devon, and the rest of the UK from wherever they are. The results are just as strong online as they would be in person.

I have been recognised by ThreeBestRated as one of the top hypnotherapists in Exeter, and I have featured on BBC Radio Devon and in Devon Live. But what matters most to me is the results my clients get, and you can read many of those stories on my success stories page.

How I Work

My approach uses hypnotherapy and NLP based techniques that work directly with the subconscious fear response. There is no exposure therapy, no need to relive past experiences, and no homework that involves confronting what you are afraid of.

Most clients notice a meaningful shift within one to three sessions. Many are surprised at how quickly things change once the right part of the mind is being addressed.

The first step is always a free, no pressure call. It is not a sales call. It is simply a chance to talk about your situation, find out whether what I do is a good fit for what you need, and ask any questions you have.
